Bam Bu is a one-of-a-kind Asian fusion restaurant located in the Denver Tech Center. You will dig its upbeat, fresh and fast-paced environment that is comparable to a Tokyo Joe’s slash Noodles and Company. Its well thought out and well-presented marketing scheme is clear from its exterior signage to the interior choice of colors to its youthful menus. Bam Bu knows how to brand itself and once more customers catch wind of this gem, it will be big!

The restaurant opened on July 2nd, 2008, just two weeks after its owners Tae (Korean) and Thy (Vietnamese) Hong married in mid-June. Tae had previously managed several hotels around Denver, while Thy came in with experience working at her family’s restaurant. After three years of experimenting with various ingredients and foods, Thy established the appropriate menu for Bam Bu, but she continues trying out new recipes to add dishes to the menu.
When we arrived at Bam Bu, we were immediately greeted by the amiable couple and served many dishes beyond our stomachs’ capacity, starting off with crab cheese wontons, spring rolls, and mandu (similar to pot stickers). We noted that the cheese wontons had more cheese than at other restaurants and that the sweet dipping sauce was especially delicious (and homemade).

Next the tender meats mixed with veggies from the Shaken Beef, Fire Chicken, and Kalbi Beef filled us up! Without a doubt, each dish had tasty and extreme flavors as well as fresh produce in the salads that came on the side. The noodles were a treat, in which we tried the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Noodle Bowl (rice noodles). We were blown away by the variety of flavors found on each plate, all created without MSG or hydrogenated oils!
We capped off our lunch with a frozen yogurt dessert, original flavor, topped with strawberries and mochi (Japanese rice balls), which is said to be the most popular combination at Bam Bu.

Why “Bam Bu”? Tae explained the restaurant serves dishes from countries that  bamboo trees originate in, with an accent over the “bu” to show “tradition being infused with originality”.

At Bam Bu, not only are they price conscious, they are also environmentally-friendly, rated at 75% green. This includes menus printed on recycled paper and reused furniture and flooring. Despite the reusage, the ambiance is welcoming as it provides an open, down-to-earth space to dine.
What’s especially warm about the restaurant are not only its green colors but the friendly service you receive. Many of Bam Bu’s customers are on a first name basis with the restaurant workers.
